Historic Voices Series: This hymn was arranged and published through the work of Lorenzo Lyons. While many of his 19th century colleagues were interested in removing Hawaiian language and traditions through evangelization, Lyons sought to preserve Hawaiian heritage during Christian worship. This eventually earned him the title, “Ka Makua Laiana, Haku Mele o ka 'Aina Mauna” (Father Lyons, Lyric Poet of the Mountain Country). He is best known for the hymn, Hawai‘i Aloha.
